Owing to the fast paced world, most of us are always on the run to fulfill both our personal and professional commitments and as a result there is not enough time to access them through the food we eat. This lack of time has made us dependent on the fast themed food which is deficient of good nutrients required by body. Sitting at the computer desk for all day long in office affects our eye health a lot. It causes stress, exhaustion and fatigue. But to our rescue, there are over-the-counter vitamins available that work great for our eyes.

These vitamins tablets and supplements can be easily bought over the counter without prescriptions. If a person needs them with higher dosages in order to treat any particular eye issue, then they would need a prescription. They can be consumed one to four times a day depending on the amount of vitamin or mineral each tablet or scoop of supplement contains. You can check the label of composition present on the vitamin pills so that you get an idea of the amount you need.

Below mentioned is the list of the vitamins and minerals that are important for eyes:

Vitamin A, C and E

Vitamin A works great for improving night vision and prevents cataracts from occurring. Vitamin C does not allow blurred vision to happen by preventing the accumulation and crystallization of any sort of foreign particles in the eyes. Vitamin E actively helps in the prevention and advancement of eye disorder known as macular degeneration. Severity of this eye disorder can result in limited vision and in some cases can even cause total blindness.

All these vitamins can be naturally obtained from food items such as oranges, mangoes, broccoli, dried apricots, tomatoes, kiwis, brussel sprouts, carrots, green peas, eggs, green leafy vegetables and dairy products.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin

Researches have proved that intake of carotenoids such as zeaxanthin and lutein reduces the risks of eye disorder namely AMD (age-related macular degeneration). This nutrient can be obtained from food sources like corn, pepper, lettuce, kale, yellow peppers, spinach and bilberries. If you can’t get them through the natural food sources, you can also go for the readily available capsules and pills.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Many researches have proved that Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for the prevention of dry eyes. It is recommended to consume approximately 3 to 6 grams of omega oil per day. Fish oil supplements are great source of omega 3 oil.
