Typhoid diet: Foods to eat and avoid 

Typhoid, sometimes referred to as enteric fever, is a serious disease worldwide. It is caused after consuming water and foods which are contaminated by the bacteria named Salmonella germs (S. Typhi or S. Paratyphi). People who drink stagnant water, eat unhygienic food, cook food without maintaining hygiene, etc. have an increased risk of contracting typhoid fever.  

The symptoms of typhoid can include weakness, headache, high fever, diarrhea or constipation, red patches, abdominal pain, and weight loss. Additionally, as a bacterium directly affects your digestive system, it is vital to pay attention to your immunity.  

Dietary changes can not cure typhoid, although they can improve the effectiveness of treatment and lessen symptoms. To get rid of your stomach’s discomfort and encourage rapid treatment, you must pay attention to what you consume.

Foods to Avoid   

Foods high in fiber: Stay away from all high-fiber foods because they are hard to digest and strain your digestive system. You will experience an unsettled stomach, which can be caused by consuming foods high in fiber. Avoid raw nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables.  

Spicy meals: One should avoid consuming spicy foods while suffering from typhoid. Avoid eating anything spicy because it irritates the digestive system and causes inflammation.   

Certain vegetables: Some veggies, including cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and asparagus can bloat the stomach and create gas. It increases pressure on your stomach and affects your overall health.  

Sweet Fruits: Dry fruits are nutritious but contain a lot of fiber. Avoid eating dry fruits during typhoid to relieve stomach pressure, such as walnuts, almonds, and pistachios.
